The mid-range Mercedes-Benz fintail saloons of 1959 were joined by very elegant four seater coupes and Cabriolet in 1961, at first just with fuel injected 2195cc in-line 6 cylinder 120hp small engine. But in 1962 a 170hp six cylinder 2996cc motor with a manual or auto gear box for choice. Disc brake were fitted all around. The 300SE¡¦s were double the price of the 220SE, so inevitably production was limited.
A new Range of W108 Saloons appeared in 1965,But the coupe and cabriolet model remained in limited production.
The new in- line 6 cylinder 2496cc seven-bearing engine was produced for the W108 250SE model until 1968, and then the 2778cc in-line 6 cylinder 280SE engine took over until 1971.Both cars were fitted with swing-axle rear independent suspension and power steering.

Mercedes - Benz W111 Coupes and Cabriolet were based on new mid-range W111 sadens, though styling-by Paul Braqc who later penned the 230SL-was bereft of the saloon.
clumsy fins.  He drew a tight, handsome, Detroit-influenced pillar less hardtop for the coupe, with fashionable wraparound front and rear screens, squared-off rear haunches and stacked light at the front, glass-bubble covers echoing the design of the top-of-the range Fintail saloons.1962,the 220 was joined by the air-suspended. fully disc-braked power-steered 300SE coupe using the big alloy 160 hp three-liter straight six first seen in the fintail saloons a year earlier. It was all change again fir 1965 when the 250replaced the 220 range. from this point.two door cars took technical lead from the new W108 S-Class saloons.
They replaced the upper-range Fintails that year. With higher final drive gearing and larger 14-in (365mm) wheels, the 250 coupe was almost as quick as the 300..It shared the bigger cars disc brakes.  Thus, it seemed perfectly rational to Benz-watchers when Stuttgart rationalized the coupe range with a single 280SE modelin 1967, the smooth,  flexible 2778cc unit pumping 160 real horsepower in fuel-injected from.

The Final and the best W111 the most exciting coupe derivative was the 1969 V-eight conceived to appease American buyers weaned on lazy, a high-toruke V-eight single cam per bank electronically injected engine give a full-blooded 200 hp at 5800rpm in dirty, with a 4 speed Mercedes Benz made 4 speed auto gear box. European tune, good for over 125mph(201km/h) with 0-100 km/h less than 10 seconds. Still top of the Mercedes range at end of 60s.Only few cars can match the elegance of these 1960s coupe and cabriolets. The 600 Limousine Max speed got 120mph(193km/h) The W111 2 door stayed in production until 1971,when it was replaced by the 350SLC.

The Mercedes-Benz 280 SE 3.5 Coupe is the highest developed and strongest motorized model of the coupe production series. In 1961 began with the 220 SE Coupe the production of these fantastic cars, which the French like to call "Grand Routier". The motorization and prices of the coupes rose constantly.

There followed a 250 SE, 280 SE and 300 SE.. Shortly before the end of production Mercedes introduced its famous 350 SE Motor. The abundant root wood, the thick leather upholstery, the comfortable seats and the spacious seating invite you to styleful and very comfortable traveling. Even 5-member families find it difficult to fill the exceptionally large trunk with their luggage. This was a car suited to take German families across Europe for their annual holiday on the beaches of the Mediterranean . This unit was used for many years in the 350 SE, SL and SLC.   Accordingly small is the number of pieces manufactured.  According to the Mercedes Benz record 3,270 copies of the type 280SE3.5 Cabriolet - and 1,232 copies of the type 280SE3.5 Coupe were built. Production time from 11/1969 to 7/1971. This motor was only offered for one year in the 280 SE 3.5 Coupe. RHD 2 door Coupe model Inc Coupe and Cabriolet were more rare, only less than handful been made. The W111 280SE 3.5 coupe had clean, elegant lines with a timeless quality. Powerful 3.5 SOHC injected V8 engine give them a fair turn of speed. The export model for the United States dropped the Plexiglas headlight cover. The radiator grille was made wider and lower than 220,250,280 model. The one we got was imported from UK at 80s by a film Star in HK. The car was fully restored by Mr Sun, Joi Muk ( a 60s mini cooper S collector in HK ) between 2004-2008.
